Depression

Low mood, loss of interest, and the exhaustion of just getting through the day: depression affects every part of life. With the right support, things can get better.

Common signs and challenges

Nothing feels interesting or worth doing anymore.

I'm tired all the time, no matter how much I sleep.

I can't focus on anything.

Even small decisions feel overwhelming.

I've stopped reaching out to people, even though I know I should.

I feel like a burden to everyone.

I don't see how things can get better.

How we help

Expertise and support
Depression has a self-reinforcing quality: it withdraws you from the activities and connections that sustain mood, and it generates thoughts that make those things feel pointless or out of reach. Our counsellors understand these patterns well, including the particular hopelessness that comes from having tried to push through and found it didn't work. Treatment is designed to interrupt the cycle, not wait for motivation to return on its own.
Our approach
We use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the most researched treatment for depression, alongside meaning-centred approaches drawn from Logotherapy for clients who benefit from reconnecting with purpose. Sessions are structured and goal-directed, with clear milestones and regular progress reviews. We can also coordinate with your GP or psychiatrist if you're taking medication.
Who we work with
We work with adults, adolescents, and children, and tailor treatment to each person's presentation, whether that's MDD, persistent low mood, PDD, postpartum depression, SAD, or depression occurring alongside anxiety.

  • Sustained improvement in mood and energy levels
  • Re-engagement with activities, relationships, and responsibilities
  • More balanced and realistic thinking patterns
  • Improved sleep and appetite regulation
  • Greater sense of meaning and motivation

Common questions

Should I be on medication, try counselling, or both?

CBT is a first-line treatment for depression in its own right, and when the severity of the case allows it, its long-term benefits make it the preferred option, because it gives you skills and control. For more severe cases, medication may be necessary for a period of time. In the majority of the cases we do not recommend a treatment plan that only includes medication, because usually there are psychological aspects that need to be addressed too. We can help you think through the options, and we work alongside prescribers when medication is part of the picture.

What if I don't have the energy to engage in sessions?

This is one of the most common concerns, and it's worth naming directly: depression makes starting things hard, including getting help. Sessions are structured precisely to reduce the cognitive load involved. You don't need to come in ready to open up. Just showing up is enough to start.

Do I have to talk about my past?

CBT is present-focused. We work on the patterns that are keeping you stuck now. We explore the past when it's directly connected to a current situation, but the focus is on what you can do in the present.
